Recently, we had the opportunity to take on one of these projects: a striking, custom raven inlay, destined for a truly unique piece.
The customer arrived not with a vague idea, but with a finalized vector design—a detailed, stylized raven. Our mission was to translate this digital artwork into a physical, precision-cut wooden inlay that would seamlessly integrate into a larger piece. We knew immediately that this was a job for our CNC machine, which is precisely the kind of tech-enabled artistry that sets us apart.
The Challenge: Turning Vector Lines into Hardwood
When a customer provides a design, our first job is optimization. Complex geometries, like the feathery details of the raven, require careful path planning on the CNC to ensure the final wood pieces remain strong, the edges remain crisp, and the pieces fit with absolute precision. As you can see from our workshop photos, the process is a beautiful dance of technology. We selected contrasting hardwoods (a classic combination of light maple for the raven against a dark walnut base) to ensure the design pops.
